Veteran Family
Very proud of all those who served! Talking with dad a few years ago and a little disappointed in myself that I didn’t serve at least for a bit and he commented that he considered that our whole family had served, by supporting and taking part in the daily sacrifice that is being a military family!
So… if you’ve gotten this far :^) things I learned as a military kid.
- The flag deserves respect and so do your elders (and peers).
- You are never too busy on base to stop what you are doing and respect/salute facing the direction of the flag that’s going up or down.
- Your mom is stronger than you can imagine.
- Your Church and fellow Christians are literally wherever in the world YOU are.
- Your friends have a stronger bond because of what you have in common.
- The media almost never tells the whole story, ESPECIALLY if it doesn’t fit the collective narrative. You need to find your own truth.
- Your dad hates to leave but his devotion to country is important and something worth believing in yourself.
- Dad has super cool toys at work.
- The ‘playgrounds’ we played on were actual boot camp training courses!
- Yes sir no sir, ma’am.
- The sounds of airplanes landing and taking off now are nostalgic!
- Those huge box crates make awesome 2 story forts!
- Your dad will take on the base commander on your behalf :^)
- When the sign says aircraft crossing it means AIRCRAFT CROSSING. And that’s a fight you will lose.
- Liquid nitrogen is COLD (that poor dog’s tongue!)
- They are serious and strict but forgiving.
- They throw away crazy good stuff when they move!
- They throw away super cool/strange things as well, all sorts of stuff to get in trouble with :^)
- People will love you just because you are in a military family.
- People will hate you just because you are in a military family.
- While the people who love you will smile the people who hate you may literally hurt you.
- Turn the other cheek. Once.
- When dad is gone overseas he is GONE. But when he’s back he’s BACK!
- It’s ok to start a relationship/friendship with undeserved trust and respect. It doesn’t cost you anything.
- All soldiers/marines/sailors sacrifice.
- Soldiers marines and sailors are not the same…
Well maybe soldiers and sailors :^)
